Petaling Jaya is one of the Klang Valley's oldest suburbs, and its gardens show it. Houses in SS2, Section 17, Section 5 around PJ Old Town, Damansara Jaya, Damansara Utama and Kelana Jaya were often built in the 1960s to 1980s and have been extended more than once since, which leaves gardens that are smaller than they used to be, shaded by neighbours and sitting on soil that has been compacted by decades of foot traffic and renovation work.
That is why so much of our PJ work is renewal rather than blank-slate design. A typical job replaces cracked concrete and a leggy hedge with interlocking pavers, a pebble courtyard and a tighter planting scheme that suits the shade; loosens and feeds the old soil with compost before anything goes in; and sets up a monthly maintenance visit so the garden does not slide back. Landlords with tenanted houses in Section 17 or Damansara Jaya often ask us to keep the garden presentable between tenancies.
PJ is also a working city. Offices in Damansara Uptown, the business parks around Kelana Jaya, Section 13 and the Bandar Utama and Tropicana side bring requests for plant rental, reception greenery and condominium common-area maintenance.
